The New Alternative for Commercial Flooring

Polished concrete is considered a sustainable design flooring option because it makes use of materials already present. Most modern buildings are built on a concrete floor slab — polishing the exposed concrete eliminates the energy and material consumed by applying a floor covering.

Polished concrete floors are low maintenance, more durable, and easier to clean than most flooring options. Their coefficient of friction makes them non-slippery. They reduce dust mite and allergen problems and do not support mold growth.

6 Reasons to Choose Polished Concrete

Cost Savings

Using the slab-on-grade as the finished surface eliminates floor-covering costs and reduces maintenance.

Traffic Resistant

Stands up to high foot traffic, forklift tires, and oil/chemical spills without showing wear.

Low Maintenance

Only occasional damp mopping required. No waxes, coatings, or associated labor expenses.

Moisture Resistant

Allows the floor to breathe, eliminating moisture transmission issues that plague tile and sealed surfaces.

Light Reflective

High light reflectivity projects a bright, professional image and reduces artificial lighting needs.

Sustainable

Uses materials already on site. No hazardous coatings, cleaners, or adhesives. A green-building choice.

Polished concrete installation

New or Retrofit

The process of polishing concrete is similar to sanding wood. Heavy-duty polishing machines gradually grind surfaces to the desired shine and smoothness — the closest equivalent is polished granite or marble.

Polished concrete floor installation comes in two types:

New Floors

Less work, lower cost. Slab is polished directly as part of initial construction.

Retrofit Floors

Existing slab is cut or sanded (revealing natural aggregate), or topped with a 50mm+ finishing layer.
